anna bernard | stale studio

Stale Studio arrived as an unsuspecting thought in the midst of a challenging creative hiatus. The idea came in a time of rebuilding, which in turn, encouraged an ongoing practice of intention, patience and release.

Stale Studio is a collection of creative works that emphasize curiosity and awareness, and act as a reminder to honor the present.

about the artist

Anna is an artist, designer and potter currently based in Salt Lake City, UT.

As a lifelong, traditionally-trained painter, she has found great liberation in practicing abstract expressionism. Her work explores the complexity and unity of the human experience while observing its relationship with the natural world, often accompanied by introspective and existential themes.

Her paintings, with emphasis on form, color and process, intend for us to slow down and connect to our present experience. Often breaking many rules before following them, her body of work revolves around playfulness, intention, meditation and curious awareness. Anna’s work draws upon the intricately connected human experience and intends to offer a bridge to what is around us and within us; in a way that extends beyond language.

As a potter, her work similarly revolves around playfulness, curiosity, meditation and awareness, but with the goal of intentional functionality. She loves the subtle magic it brings to everyday motions, and its gentle reminder on presence and intention. Ceramics has been a recent, yet rewarding endeavor.
